Art - As artists we will:
- Make detailed, analytical, observational drawings.
- Investigate and use portrait imaginary using methods and techniques of famous artists (Heron, Caulfield, Picasso and Braque)
Computing – We will study spreadsheets & text adventures.
- Exploring probability.
- Use of spreadsheets in ‘real life’.
- Use a spreadsheet to plan pocket money spending.
- Planning a school event.
- Plan, make and code text-based adventure games.
Design Technology – As designers we will:
- Mechanisms - Pulleys and gears: eg. a toy with moving parts, shop display, fairground with various rides etc.
English – As writers, readers and communicators we will :
- Continue to develop writing with ‘Oranges in No Mans Land’ by Elizabeth Laird (Journalistic Writing and Recount) then return to narrative writing using the acclaimed visual narrative ’The Arrival’ by Shaun Tan to develop character descriptions, settings, use of dialogue etc.
- Develop our reading fluency and understanding (comprehension skills) using the award-winning text (The Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom) analyzing the plot, characters, events taking place, vocabulary used, its desired effects and author’s intent. We will also study non-fiction (Moth: an evolutionary story) and poetry (Belonging Street).
French – As linguists we will:
- Study a French traditional tale le lièvre et la tortue.
- Write own traditional tale in French.
- Compare French and English School routines.
Geography – We will study North & South America:
- To know the names of and locate a number of North or South American countries.
- To describe the environmental regions, climate zones, vegetation belts, key human and physical features, countries and major cities of North and South America.
- To focus on a specific country/region and study the similarities and differences between living there and the UK.
- To describe and understand types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water.
History – As historians we will be studying ‘Britain since WWII’: We will learn about:
- The situation in Britain following the Second World War.
- How the Second World War led to the creation of the NHS.
- Some of the experiences of the Windrush Generation.
- The changes to technology during the Second World War impacted on British people’s lives after the war.
- Some of the social and cultural changes.
Mathematics – As mathematicians we will:
- Learn how to order and compare, convert, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions.
- Understand the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Recognise angles at points where they meet and find missing angles in shapes.
- Co-ordinates - describe positions on 4 quadrant grid. Draw, translate, & rotate shapes on the co-ordinate plane plus reflect them on the axes.
- Measure - Problem-solving activities that include the calculation and conversion of units of measure using decimal notation to 3 decimal places.
- Read, write & convert between standard units of length, mass, volume and time. Convert between metric and imperial units of measurement.
- Calculate the area of parallelograms & triangles.
- Statistics - Interpret & construct pie charts, line graphs and solve problems. Calculate the mean, median and mode.
- Ratio - relative sizes of 2 quantities, sharing/grouping.
- Calculate and compare percentages of amounts.
- Draw a range of geometric shapes using given dimensions and angles.
- Describe, draw, translate and reflect shapes on a co-ordinate plane.
P.E. – As athletes we will:
- Develop our accuracy through Football, Volleyball, Basketball and Tennis.
- Develop teamwork and strategy skills.
R.E. - As theologians we will study:
Exploring the Mass -
- Jesus is the bread of life.
- Understand that Jesus made a New Covenant with us.
- Understand that Penitential Act and the Liturgy of the Word.
- Understand what happens at the Offertory, Consecration.
- Understand that the Eucharist is the source and summit of life.
Jesus the Messiah -
- Deepen our understanding of Jesus.
- Understand that Jesus is the Messiah.
- Know about the final journey Jesus made to Jerusalem.
- Know about the events of holy Thursday and reflect on the importance of these events.
- Know about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus and reflect on their meanings.
RPSHE - ‘How can the media influence people?’
- RPSHE programme, we will learn about the following:
- Media literacy & Digital resilience;

- Decision-making;

- Pol.Ed programme: Relationships, Keeping Safe, Understanding the law
Science – As scientists we will look at :
‘Evolution & Inheritance’
- Explain what fossils tell us about our past.
- Understand Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection.
- Identify inherited characteristics from our parents.
- Look at how animals and plants adapt to suit their environment.
‘Scientists and Inventors’ - we will learn about the following scientists and inventors and their work:
- Katherine Johnson and flight trajectory.
- Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone.
- Rachel Carson and the US Environmental Agency.
- Stephen Hawking and his black hole theories.
- George Washington Carver and his work with agricultural science.
- Marie Curie and her work towards modern day cancer treatments.
